Januario Jano at Bienal Sur 2025

We are proud to announce Januário Jano’s participation in BIENALSUR 2025, the fifth edition of the world’s most expansive cultural platform, presented by the Universidad Nacional de Tres de Febrero (Argentina) and Fundación Foro del Sur.

Spanning over 140 venues across 78 cities and five continents, BIENALSUR offers a transnational cartography where art becomes a shared space of reflection and emancipation. In this context, Jano brings his singular voice and perspective, rooted in the complexities of memory, colonial histories, and the diasporic experience.

Januário Jano is a multidisciplinary visual artist working across sculpture, video, photography, textiles, sound installations, and performance. With an MFA from Goldsmiths, University of London, his practice is deeply rooted in research and investigates identity, home, and cultural memory. Through his work, he explores the delicate balance between fiction and reality in a globalized world, while critically engaging with historical and contemporary narratives.

Beyond his artistic practice, Jano is the founder of Pés Descalços, a cultural and philanthropic collective in Angola that fosters artistic projects and promotes cultural reinvention. He also created TEDxLuanda, a key platform in the country’s cultural transformation after the civil war.

His work has been exhibited internationally in solo shows at Kristin Hjellegjerde Gallery (London), Jean-Claude Maier Gallery (Frankfurt), and Standing Pine Gallery (Japan), as well as in group exhibitions at the Museum of African Art (Belgrade), Tree Art Museum (Beijing), and Saatchi Gallery (London). He has received honors including the QSPA Honorable Mention, the Deveron Projects Residency, and the Art Laguna Prize.

BIENALSUR 2025 opens on June 26 in Bogotá, Colombia, and continues across cities in China, Mozambique, Spain, Norway, and many others. Jano’s project will resonate across borders, inviting audiences to reflect on shared memory, displacement, and transformation through a poetic yet critical lens.
